COHASSET, Butte County — October 28, 2026. Residents of Cohasset are among those eligible to seek a free ALERT FM emergency radio receiver through a Butte County public-safety program. The county’s Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) says that another application event is scheduled for Friday, November 6, 2026, followed by one on Friday, December 4.
Who is eligible?
The county lists Cohasset among rural communities eligible to apply. The full list also includes Bangor, Berry Creek, Butte Creek Canyon, Butte Meadows, Butte Valley, Clipper Mills, Concow, Forbestown, Forest Ranch, Magalia, Stirling City, Honcut, Palermo, Robinson Mill, South Oroville and Yankee Hill. Radios are distributed free of charge on a first-come, first-served basis to applicants who meet the eligibility requirements. Inclusion of a community does not guarantee that every applicant will receive a device.
Where should residents go?
The county’s original notice names 202 Mira Loma Drive, Klamath Room, Oroville, CA 95965, as the location for the October 2 application event, and says the later November 6 and December 4 applications will take place at the same location. The October 2 event was scheduled for 10 a.m.–2 p.m.; the notice does not explicitly repeat those hours for November 6 and December 4. Prospective visitors should check with the county before traveling to Oroville.
What does the receiver do?
ALERT FM receivers are designed to help people receive emergency information, particularly where mobile coverage or electricity may be unreliable during disasters. According to Butte County, each unit uses Micro-USB power and has a single-AA-battery backup that can provide up to three weeks of operation under the conditions described by the agency.
A radio receiver is one layer of preparedness, not a substitute for evacuation instructions, direct emergency alerts or checking current fire and road conditions. Cohasset residents should maintain multiple ways to learn about changing weather, fire and road conditions.
How to apply or verify times
Go to the county’s ALERT FM program information page or review the September 30 Butte County CERT announcement. Ask what documents are needed to verify eligibility, whether supplies remain and the precise hours of the November 6 event.
